Introduction

Welcome to The Kid Play (TheKidPlay)! We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for children and families. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use thekidplay.com and the TheKidPlay Android app (package name com.thekidplay.app).

Our products are child-directed. We aim to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), GDPR-K, and other applicable children's privacy laws. We do not sell children's personal information. For questions, email privacy@thekidplay.com or contact@thekidplay.com.

TheKidPlay Android app (current version)

This section describes only the current TheKidPlay Android app. It does not describe thekidplay.com. The current Android app is a closed beta and is not available to the general public. The public product is thekidplay.com. The current beta build has no account, no ads, and no in-app purchases.

What the Android app does not collect in this version

  • No account, email, or login is required or offered
  • No ads and no in-app purchases in this version
  • No camera, microphone, location, contacts, or notification permission
  • No Android Advertising ID collection (Firebase Advertising ID collection is disabled)

Information stored on the device

The Android app stores the following locally on the device (MMKV):

  • Theme preference (light, dark, or system)
  • Language preference (English or German)
  • A cached copy of the activity catalog so the app can load faster

Drawings stay on the device unless a parent or child uses the operating system share sheet to share them. We do not upload artwork to our servers.

Catalog and content from thekidplay.com

The Android app loads games, quizzes, and coloring images from https://thekidplay.com over HTTPS. During normal play, the app sends an Accept-Language header so we can return the right language. The remote catalog can change without an app update.

Optional feedback

If someone chooses to send feedback from the Android app, we receive:

  • Feedback type (site improvement or new game idea)
  • Message (10–300 characters)
  • Page path inside the app
  • App language (locale)

That request uses a short-lived website CSRF/session cookie only so the form can be submitted securely. Feedback is optional.

Firebase Analytics

The Android app uses Google Firebase Analytics for automatic app diagnostics, such as sessions, app version, and device/OS information. Advertising ID collection is disabled. We do not use Firebase Analytics for interest-based advertising to children.

Firebase Crashlytics

The Android app uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports (stack traces and device/OS information) so we can fix bugs.

Future Android app features

The following features are not in the current Android version. Future versions of the TheKidPlay Android app may:

  • Show child-directed, non-personalized ads through a Google Play Families self-certified ads SDK
  • Offer optional Google Play Billing purchases (for example, unlock packs or remove ads)

Those features will not use interest-based advertising to children and will not collect the Android Advertising ID from children. We will update this Privacy Policy and the Google Play Data Safety form before those features ship.

thekidplay.com website

This section describes only thekidplay.com. Website accounts, Google Analytics 4, and Google AdSense apply to the website, not to the current Android app.

Website account information

On thekidplay.com, when you create a website account, we collect the following information:

  • Email Address: Used for account authentication and communication
  • First Name: Used to personalize your experience
  • Last Name: Used to personalize your experience
  • Password: Stored securely using industry-standard encryption (hashed, never stored in plain text)

Website game progress data

On thekidplay.com, when you use a website account, we collect and store the information required to sign in. We do not offer a public quests page or reward cards.

Website accounts do not save a public artwork gallery. Drawings stay in the browser or on the device unless a family downloads or shares them.

Website analytics (Google Analytics 4)

On thekidplay.com, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics to help us improve the website. We do not track personal information through Google Analytics. Website analytics may collect:

  • Traffic sources (where visitors come from, such as search engines, direct visits, or referral websites)
  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • Time spent on different activities
  • Device and browser information (anonymized)
  • General geographic location (country/region level only, not specific addresses or personal locations)

Google Analytics 4 automatically anonymizes IP addresses by default. IP addresses are not stored; they are only used temporarily to determine general location data before being discarded.

How we use information

On thekidplay.com, when you create a website account, we use your information to:

  • Create and manage your website account
  • Save and restore your game progress across devices on the website
  • Personalize your learning experience and recommend activities on the website
  • Track achievements, badges, and gamification progress on the website
  • Communicate important updates about your website account or our services
  • Analyze website usage via Google Analytics 4
  • Support the website through Google AdSense advertising (including non-personalized, child-directed ads where applicable)

In the TheKidPlay Android app, we use information only to run the app, load the catalog, process optional feedback, diagnose crashes with Firebase Crashlytics, and understand app stability with Firebase Analytics.

Data security

We take data security seriously and implement industry-standard measures to protect your information:

  • Website passwords are hashed using secure cryptographic algorithms
  • Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only
  • Regular security audits and updates to our systems
  • Secure database storage with access controls
  • Data Hosting: Our website application and databases are hosted in Germany, Frankfurt, supporting compliance with European data protection regulations (GDPR)

Advertising on thekidplay.com (Google AdSense)

On thekidplay.com, we use or plan to use Google AdSense to display advertisements that help keep the website free to use. Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons or similar technologies, to serve and measure ads as a result of ads appearing on our site. Google AdSense is a website feature. The current Android app does not show ads.

  • Because thekidplay.com is directed to children, we intend to treat the site as child-directed for advertising purposes and to use non-personalized ads (not interest-based or remarketing ads targeted at children)
  • Google and partners may still use cookies or identifiers for ad serving, frequency capping, and aggregated measurement on the website

Third-party services

Google Analytics 4 (website)

On thekidplay.com, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors discover and interact with the website. We do not track personal information. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze anonymous information about traffic sources and general usage patterns.

Specifically, on the website we only track:

  • Where visitors are coming from (traffic sources, referral websites, search engines)
  • General usage patterns and page views (anonymized)
  • Device and browser information (anonymized)

We do NOT track: names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information through Google Analytics 4. IP addresses are not stored; they are only used temporarily to determine general location (country/region level) before being discarded.

Google AdSense (website)

On thekidplay.com, we use or plan to use Google AdSense for advertising as described in the website advertising section above. Google's privacy practices are described at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Firebase (Android app)

In the TheKidPlay Android app, we use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics as described in the Android app section above. These are not the same as website Google Analytics 4 or Google AdSense.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

The Kid Play website and Android app are directed to children and families. We take children's privacy seriously and aim to comply with COPPA and other applicable children's privacy laws:

  • We only collect the minimum information necessary to provide our services
  • Website account registration (when used) is intended for parents or guardians managing a child's experience; parents should supervise account creation for younger children
  • The current Android app does not offer accounts
  • We do not sell children's personal information, and we do not share children's personal information with third parties for interest-based marketing
  • Advertising on this child-directed website is intended to be non-personalized; we do not use interest-based advertising or remarketing based on children's activity on thekidplay.com
  • Parents or guardians can review, modify, or delete a child's website account information, or ask us to delete Android app feedback, by contacting us (see Contact Us below)

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion: On thekidplay.com, request deletion of your website account and associated data. For the Android app, uninstall the app to remove local prefs and drawings, and email us to delete any feedback you sent
  • Data Portability: Request your website account data in a portable format
  • Opt-Out: On thekidplay.com, disable Google Analytics tracking through your browser settings or our cookie banner

Data retention

On thekidplay.com, we retain your personal information for as long as your website account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you delete your website account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes. Optional Android app feedback is retained until you ask us to delete it or we no longer need it to improve the product.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
